Writing Not Just As An Artform – But As A Business

Ever tried to write a letter of complaint, or a letter to plead for forgiveness or forgetfulness? With all the passion that one might feel in their soul about deeply personal or difficult issues, it is often not easy to put all that passion to paper.Passion writing is something that I truly love to do. I love to find the words that will move someone else to understand my needs or feelings. When I decided to retire from what I call “The Slave Ship” [hitting the clock, marching in step, living the mission, putting your daily routine in the hands of others], one of the things I wanted to do was to help others with translating their passion onto paper. I want to now help others take the sting out of making a point to someone else in a way that is clearly understood and gets the desired result if one is asking for something — particularly something really important. For years friends and co-workers have come to me for assistance in writing letters to debt collectors, disgruntled family members, utility companies or credit card companies who slipped in undue charges. And happily I’ve done this for free.Sometimes one’s gift can be one’s profit. So I now look within to find a way to translate my passion into pay without it seeming live work. Les Brown, my favorite motivational speaker, once said: “Find a job you love and you will never work again”. I choose to take the word “job” out of my vocabulary now and look to a future of service to those who need help with writing and trust that there is now some reward in doing do.
